Being Known...by breaking

Updated: Jan 8, 2024

Don't you love the story of the two travelers to Emmaus? Can you picture the scenario?

I think the verse that always grabs me so intensely is when they ask the inquisitive "stranger" traveling along side them, "Are you the only visitor to Jeruselem who does not know what has happened there these last days?"

Can you imagine how Christ must have felt? Had he not heard??? Oh my! The irony of that question. Not only had He heard, but....it is almost too much to fathom! And the hurt he no doubt felt as he realized once again, how they had not heard, not with an understanding heart, what he had been proclaiming all along! What the prophets had predicted.

The fulfilment to those prophesies was right there! Walking side by side with them!

How often, is our Savior right beside us and we do not even know it? How often is He trying to get our attention, lovingly stepping along with us through the ups and downs of life's pathway? And yet, we miss Him! Distracted by the busyness of the moment, the "here-sayings" of our culture, the cloudiness of our eternal vision!

And then, at what point was it when the travelers finally realized who their journey comapanion was? It was when He broke the bread! It was then their eyes were opened. And so with us, when we allow Him to touch our hurting hearts and break us, it is then that He reveals Himself to us in a personal and beautiful way. It is then that He makes us whole and multiplies our purpose and joys.

Oh, may we pray daily, that the Lord would open our eyes, open our hearts, to what our Savior is speaking to our world-weary souls! May we allow our hearts to be broken daily with humility and a sense of neediness, that we might recognize the Bread-breaker in our midst!

He is with us dear ones, each step of the way. He loves us. More than we can know. He understands our plight, has walked the same dust of earth and can speak into our souls, as only a fellow traveler can! But oh He is so much more!

Our fellow-traveler! He, the only one who can open the gate to our final destination of eternal and unsurpassed joy and beauty! May we bask in the joy of His presense on our earthly journey...

as He speaks love to our broken hearts and our treading souls. How blessed we are to know and be known by The Bread-breaker...

the Bread of Life, Himself!!

Wincing and Worship

Today I have been wincing. In pain. I did something to a hip muscle. Or so it seems. Might have something to do with the way I lifted those heavy chairs yesterday. But unfortunately, today there was n
