Leave a Burst

I love looking out our sunroom windows, taking in the peaceful, park-like surroundings beyond them. As I enjoyed the view this morning, I had to think that I am seeing the signs of the approaching season.
Last weekend was lovely. It "felt like fall". People were wearing sweatshirts. There was that crisp chill in the air. It is still August. But the foilage on our trees is starting to look less vibrant; less green. My lovely flowers, are not as lovely. We see the signs...
But as I consider what is ahead, I feel that sense of anticipation. Color, cozy, crisp, comfort...these words remind me of Fall. I think we all love the autumn season. And one of the aspects we love most are the colors. The burst....of those beautiful, glorious, deep, rich colors of Fall. The trees' one last hurrah before they fade into a more restful time.
So maybe this has to do with the season of life I find myself in. I feel, being in my 60's, that this must be the Fall of my life. My youthful prime years are gone, "old age" is on the (distant :) ) horizon, and the comfortable, cozy time of Fall has settled in.
For those of you approaching this season, or in it, maybe you can relate. Do we not want these years to be full of warm and deep color, as by God's grace, we desire to share the wisdom we may have accrued, and the joy we have, with those around us? Are we coloring the world we live in with Christ's beauty? Are we desiring to leave a burst of "color" that points to God's wonder and goodness for those around us to observe and enjoy? Before we head into the more subtle but still beautiful winter season of our lives.
Don't get me wrong. We have not "made it". We are still so in need of sunshine and nourishment for ourselves. Still learning and needy. But we are blessed with opportunity, in one way or another. Our areas of opportune vary, but God provides them for us all.
So, my fellow "Senior-ish" (or would you rather be called "pre-Senior"?) friends and readers, lets shine on for our Lord, and lets pray for grace and opportunity to....
Leave a Burst ...of God's colorful love, on the trees of our lives!
