Obstructions and Farsightedness

Awhile back, we were blessed to spend some time in part of God's beautiful countryside. We vacationed in Maine and were beyond thrilled with the breathtaking ocean, mountain, lake and harbor views we encountered.
As I sat on the deck of our rustic abode, in the remote inland regions, I had to ponder the marvelous view before me. As lovely as it was, I sadly noticed the uncomely utility pole and wires that obstructed the otherwise picturesque landscape before me. I knew I couldn't remove I wished I could (or move it at least:) As I allowed my mind's eye to look beyond the wires, I then beheld a loveliness stretching beyond, far off into the horizon and practically into enternity! Glorious splendor as far as my eyes could see.
And so it made me come to a very meaningful correlation. We as Heaveward travelers are on a journey with an eternal perspective. As we strive to "see ahead" and take inspiration and assurance in the beauties and glories that await, we still must endure the ugly realities of the world in which we live.
There are the unsightly obstacles of sin, poverty, chaos and despair that cloud the landscape of our lives. These obstacles are before us, sobering and real. May the Lord help us to deal with life's challenges in a healthy way. May we do our part to remove the unbecoming obstacles in our own lives as well as in the lives of those around us, pointing ourselves and fellow travelers to Jesus; His forgiveness, sanctification and joy. May we not be taken aback by the wordly temptations that satan puts in our path. He desires that we get so used to the unsightly obstacles that we do not even notice them anymore. But let us keep our eyes forcosed on that distant horizon and the beauties that await. Let us breathe in the refreshing, far off view and go forward with faith that the Lord will see us through.
As we live with a far-sighted vision, the obstacles of earth will "grow strangely dim" as the glory of His countenance and ways bring his Heavely splendor into sharper focus.
May we deal with life's obstacles by employing....
the God given gift of far-sightedness!
