Recognizing Questions

So yesterday was a cold one. Very. Our church here in central IL was cancelled. Thanks to the gift of technology, we were able to tune in to several church services from across the country. It was a blessing for sure!

As we were listening to a minister from one of our southern (warmer:) ) churches, he shared of how we are to "be ready to give an answer of anyone who asks us of the hope that lies within us". (1 Peter 3:15). He went on to mention that in actuality, we do not often have that happen to us. Not often does someone come up and ask us about our faith, or our "hope". When they do, it is a rare and wonderful God-given opportunity that we have to share the Gospel.

But that got me to thinking. No, people do not tend to come right out and ask that of us. But as we observe those around us, as we see them grasping for truth and meaning, is there possibly a question being asked, albeit non-verbally? As we see folks wallowing through this life, making poor decisions, seeking possibly fame or fortune, seeking to satisfy their desire to find meaning through transcient pleasures, worldy lusts, or shallow pursuits....is there a question being asked, inherant in their lifestyle?

Just wondering here. I am sure there are many who are unaware of their inner seeking to fill the "God-hole" that we all have within us. There are those who are, at the time, content and undesiring of something more, many of them, sadly hardened by the choices they have made.

But I can't help but feel, that deep down, many are hurting. And for others, not so "deeply down". It is apparent to them and they would readily admit to their need to find a source of peace and true inner joy. Yes, I am sure there are many searching for something better, something "bigger then themselves".

So may we all, as the Lord has placed each of us in different spheres of influence in the marketplaces of this world, may we have open eyes, ears and hearts. May we be in tune to the Spirit's proddings. May we grow in His Word as we grow in preparation. May we not fear taking a step of faith; reaching out with a guesture of friendship in a spirit of care and concern. (I am speaking first to myself here).

And then maybe, as God provides time and opportunity, just maybe as they come to find us as a safe resource, possibly a caring friend, or a concerned co-worker, and occasionally as a God-ordained "coincidental" mere aquaintance or contact, just maybe they will indicate a desire to know of the "hope that lies within us". And when they do, may we, by God's grace, be prepared, ready to answer, as we....

recognize the question.

Wincing and Worship

Today I have been wincing. In pain. I did something to a hip muscle. Or so it seems. Might have something to do with the way I lifted those heavy chairs yesterday. But unfortunately, today there was n
