Sacred Waters

Updated: Aug 9, 2023

Our local pool! I love it! Swimming laps in its refreshing waters has been a summer highlight now for many years. The other day as I was swimming, it occurred to me that the waters were sacred.

Why? Let me explain.

Twenty four years ago, a dear friend shared with me how she "prays the alphabet" while swimming laps. And I have been doing it ever since! I love it. A special time of prayer. The first lap is A, for Aunts and uncles, the next is B, for Brandon and Brock, C is for our Country....you get the drift :). It keeps me focused and helps me complete 26 laps with a purpose beyond exercise!

I have shared this practice with some fellow lap swimmers. One day, as I was swimming and praying, I realized that the two swimmers, one on either side of me, were also lifting up prayers to our Father's throne as their arms churned the prayer-infused waters. It was then it occurred to me...these were sacred waters. A place and avenue where we were communing with God's Spirit in a precious way!

The term sacred means "connected with God". And there is no better way to be connected with Him then by connecting with Him! And so my friend, where is your sacred place? Possibly you have a sacred treadmill, or wooded trail, or living room chair or kitchen table or back yard garden or kitchen sink. Where-ever you meet God, that place becomes sacred or "connected with God".

And when and where we are connecting with God, there is no better place to be!

"By those who come near Me

I must be regarded as holy:

And before all the people

I must be glorified" Lev. 10:3
