The One Beside Us

Updated: Mar 27, 2024

So this is a random muse, consider yourself warned :) But at our church, like many of my readers', we sing from hymnals. People from the congregation give off a number, we all turn to it, and the leaders then lead us in the song of praise and worship.

Well, there are times, as we are sitting next to someone during the song service prior to the message, that we may be visiting a bit. We are glad to see each other, and fellowship happens. But consequently, there are thus times when we "miss" hearing a number that was called off due to our temporary distraction. It is then typical, to turn to the one beside us, to check out what hymn they are opened to. We then open to that number, after whispering the number to the friend that we had been conversing with. Upon occasion, the number that we observed from the person sitting next to us, is incorrect, and thus several of us are looking down the line, trying to find someone who can direct us to the right number.

This happened today. And it made me think.... a little further and a little deeper. What a blessing it is to have fellow travelers, there beside us on this journey, whom we can turn to to help point us back on track when we find ourselves temporarily distracted. May we be thankful for them, and may we be aware that we also, want to be that person who is "on the right page" and can help point others to it at their time of need.

That page we all want to be on is Jesus Christ! The One who is always....

beside us!
