The Taste of Summer

Updated: Jun 28, 2023

Who doesn't love a sweet, cold, juicy slice of delectable water melon on a hot summer's day? There is just something about it. It is nostalgic. It is good. It is summer.

It causes memories to flash of picnics, of cousins, of swimming parties, of reunions. Do you remember the way your mom would tap on the melons at the store, checking out this one and that one, until she confidently placed the chosen one like a prize in her cart, before pushing on towards the next item on her list?

Then there would be Dad's comments upon partaking of the delectable sweetness. "Now that was a good one. Good choice!"

I know those who have tried growing them. They often turned out less then desirable, maybe gritty or small or sadly, buggy. Other years, the weather was more optimal and the crop was abundant with melons to spare and to share. And always, a shared melon would bring a shared smile.

And now, as you might recall, this blog has been referred to as a place of "random analogies meant to encourage and inspire", and thus I have an analogy to pass on to you. A little fruity maybe, but meaningful nonetheless :)

This summer fruit, this melon, can bless us twice. It's a delicious treat in the moment and because of the seeds, it can provide a similar time of pleasant partaking in the future. A two fold blessing. Kind of like a time of fellowship with a good friend. Sweet in the moment while planting seeds of encouragement for the future.

Watermenlons provide a pop of vibrant summer color, bites of refreshing watery sweetness and the promise of ongoing fruit for the future.

God thought of everything. Of course. He is our wonderful Creator God.

Thank you God for life's simple things...

Like times spent with friends,

And for watermelons and the taste of Summer.
