Too late!

I was too late! The door was shut. The opportunity gone. I felt disappointment, frustration, helplessness.
What am I talking about? The Proclaim and Serve Conference that our church held last weekend. It always promises to be a blessed and inspiring experience as we have opportunity to hear thought provoking speakers, attend lively discussion groups and particiapte in powerful break-out sessions. I always leave re-focused on our Christian mission and how we each can help to proclaim the Gospel and be God's hands and feet. The precious fellowship and joyous singing add to the day.
That said, we missed it. My intentions were there. But I simply put it off. I do not think I was really aware that there was a cut-off to sign up. So when I finally accessed the site and found that it was "too late", I felt helpless. There was nothing I could do. It would go on and we would not be there.
We did find plenty to do, of course, on our free Saturday and we were thankful for the opportunity to listen in a bit. But as we listened in, the glorious singing was so beautiful. It made us realize once again, how much better it would have been to "be there".
So what is the point here? We all have been late for signing up for something and being left out of the opportunity. It happens. We can't do it all, I know.
But the reason I am writing, is because of the way this experience made me feel. To have a door shut on something, to know that it is "too late", that the opportunity has come...and gone, made me ponder.
How beyond awful and unimaginable will it be when the door of grace is closed, when the opportunity for sinful men and women (all of us), to find reconciliation and peace through the blood of Christ, to obtain that precious gift of eternal life in Heaven...when that time is gone, for those "left out", how horrendous it will be.
If you are contemplating becoming a child of God, surrendering to Him...someday, do not put it off. The door will be shut one day. The opportunity will be gone. None of us know the day or time when Christ will return, for it will happen in the "blink of an eye". None of us know when our own precious life will come to an end. Let's not put off for tomorrow what we can and should do today. For once it is too late, it is....
too late!
