Uniforms and Jesus

What is it about kids and playing dress up? They seem to love to put on uniforms and to take on the respective role as they engage in their imaginative play. Once "in uniform", they love to sport the look as well as play the part. Fires are put out by Mr. Fireman. Burglars are caught by Mr. Policeman. Mr. Doctor helps brother to feel better. Mr. basketball player in his special team jersey, swishes the ball through the LIttle Tykes net! Miss ballerina swirls through the room! Miss princess parades around, a beaming smile on her pretty little face!

It made me ponder, this "puttting on" of apparel. As Christians, we are to daily "put on" the armor of God. Mentally, we don the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit, the breastplate of righteousness, the shield of faith, the belt of truth, the shoes of the Gospel, the sword of the Spirit. When we are thus clothed, we are equipped to go into battle with the temptations that abound and by God's grace, experience victory. We are dressed and ready. We represent our team. We are able to make a difference.

The difference shows up in the way we respond to others and to life's situations. The fruit of ths Spirit becomes evident; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Thanks to the Spirit working in us.

So as we go forth, each day, let's put on our armor, our uniform if you will, our jersey of sorts, so all will know that we are blessed to be on the winning team....

team Jesus!
